Scrub Jay Photo

Scrub Jay Video

This photo of a Scrub Jay is also a photo of this web site's author and designer, Texx Smith. It was taken at Oscar Shear Florida State Park. This park has a large population of the Scrub Jays - which are a species of special concern by the way. some people shamefully feed these wild birds and thus they have lost what little fear they have of humans. As you can see, if hold still and avert your eyes they will even land on you.

Scrub Jays eat the nuts, much like acorns, from a particular tree, the scrub oak. Their habitat is being replaced with condos and shopping centers all over Florida thus the scrub jays are disappearing as well.

This photo was taken by my fiance, Shannon with her Cannon Rebel 35mm film camera on a very sunny afternoon.

Don't forget to check out the Video of a Scrub Jay     (requires Xvid Codec to play)
