Immature Crowned Night Heron

| This is a photo of an immature Crowned Night Heron hiding way deep in the thick mangrove swamp at Weedon Island Nature Preserve in St. Petersburg Florida. Crowned Night Herons come out a little before dark and go where ever they a little after dawn. So if you're not a night person you may have never seen one before. Even if you are a night person you probably haven't seen an immature Crowned Night Heron before. This was the first I've ever seen I think. The Night Herons themselves aren't rare by any means by they are a shy bird. They may be coaxed closer to you with food, especially if you have a fishing pole in your hands but they aren't beggars by any means. |
